Corner Brook, NL – The Corner Brook Baseball Association (CBBA) is inviting residents of all ages to step up to the plate. On June 4, 2024, the association announced its Come Try Baseball Day, an event aimed at introducing more people in the community to the sport.
Held at local fields, the initiative offered a welcoming, no-pressure environment for anyone curious about baseball—whether they were complete beginners or former players considering a return.
“We wanted to create an opportunity where everyone could feel comfortable picking up a glove, taking some swings, and seeing what baseball is all about,” said Jason Mosher, President of the CBBA.
Encouraging Participation Across All Ages
The event targeted a broad audience: children as young as four, teenagers, and adult players interested in Corner Brook’s senior leagues. By removing barriers to entry, the CBBA hopes to boost registration across its minor and senior programs.
The association has been active in promoting baseball in the region for years, offering leagues, training opportunities, and community events. In the past, it has also secured federal funding to help sustain operations and expand programming.
Building Community and Sustaining Local Baseball
Organizers say initiatives like Come Try Baseball Day are essential to keeping baseball vibrant in western Newfoundland. As participation numbers fluctuate in many sports, outreach efforts help ensure that local programs remain strong and accessible.
“Getting people out to the field, showing them the basics, and letting them connect with coaches and other players is one of the best ways to grow interest,” Mosher explained.
